"Listen, there are people that are coming down the pilot ladder of the prow. You go up that pilot ladder, get on that ship and tell me how many people are still on board. And what they need. Is that clear? You need to tell me if there are children, women or people in need of assistance. And tell me the exact number of each of these categories. Is that clear? Listen Schettino, that you saved yourself from the sea, but I am going to... I'm going to make sure you get in trouble. ...I am going to make you pay for this. Go on board."
Captain Gregorio De Falco
Captain De Falco of the Livorno Port Authority demanding the captain of the stricken cruise ship Costa Concordia to return on board where hundreds of passengers were still trapped.

bullet 'The glasses of Steve Jobs' selling like hotcakes corner

Sales of Steve Jobs' signature glasses have soared following the death of the former Apple Inc. chief last month.

According to news.com.au, the German Lunor Classic Rund PP glasses, which were designed by Robert Marc and are retailing for 450-495 dollars, have sold out at Marc's eight New York stores.

Customers eyeing the glasses, being marketed on Lunor's website as "The glasses of Steve Jobs", are now being put on a 12-week waiting list.

"After [Jobs] passed, many, many clients and customers asked for these glasses. People see these (glasses) as a tribute to Mr. Jobs," said marketing executive Garck Tsui, who is responsible for the glasses' distribution in Asia.

Jobs had bought his first pair of the glasses in 1998, and was drawn to the "simplicity and purity of the frame design". (ANI)

bullet Birmingham Star corner
The Birmingham Star is essentially a local Birmingham newspaper, but with a national and international perspective, designed to provide readers with a one-stop shop for Birmingham, national US, regional, and world news coverage, weather and sports information, with live updates on breaking business stories, and what's happening in the financial markets.

The biggest advantage we have is that we are an online newspaper, which means we are constantly refreshing our stories as more and more information comes to hand. Often when a story breaks the initial details are sketchy.

We and our sources around the world work hard to gather more information, verify facts, and provide a perspective of the major stories. Expert opinion often accompanies our articles to better inform readers, and provide a more complete understanding
of the news we deliver.

Financial markets and business reports are regular features as we pin down what's happening, and constantly refresh stock market indice readings, dollar currency rates, and breaking business news reports. Our world sports coverage is a priority, as is our regional news.

We like to think if you're looking for breaking news out of Birmingham, Alabama, the United States, or the world, you'll look for it first at the Birmingham Star.
